Mar. 24th, 2021 05:42 pmI'm determined to write and share more about the media I'm enjoying lately because there is SO MUCH GOOD STUFF I've finally caught up on in the last year. In that spirit, here's a...total cheat, Johnny 2 Cellos expressing how much fun this show is.
And it's kind of a hard sell, particularly in the first couple of episodes. The main character, Gary, is impossibly annoying and obsessed with a woman he met once and hasn't spoken to in five years, and the vibe is at least Rick & Morty-adjacent. But while it's at least as gross in terms of space-body horror, it really doesn't have any of R&M's smug nihilism. Gary eventually makes a kind of sense, as PTSD ADHD alphabet soup whose core character and offensive strength is bottomless love, support, and acceptance for others lost out on the fringes. It's somehow made me cry like Fry's dog sitting in front of Fanucci's pizza for 12 years and launch a so-far fruitless search for one particular character's leitmotif on any platform.
Also, the animation can be stupidly beautiful, particularly when the Space Titans show up. Can't wait to start Season 3.
