An observation: both the solicitor firms we've been dealing with (one to renew the lease, one to sue about the pipes) had quite extensive and clauses in their contracts with us about the responsibility of their clients to respond quickly to emails.

Both firms send nigh-unreadable emails with such poor grammar and spelling that, combined with their many attachments, gmail interprets them as phishing scams and banishes to spam or quarantine.

Coincidence?

Yeah, I know...it's super weird, but after (jeez!) 16 years now in the UK I've stopped being surprised at how badly people you'd expect to have even minimal levels of professional conduct do their jobs.

Hah - I had a friend who rolled her eyes at my posts, putting it down to culture shock and exaggeration, and then when she moved over was like OH NO IT'S WORSE THAN YOU DESCRIBED IT.

My best friend has been living in the UK for several years now, and she always has a new nightmare story about her experiences with medical and psychiatric "professionals." I'm kinda like.... Are you all OK over there?

Nope! I mean I'm joking, but...this place is so poisoned by hate that the majority's embraced all this Brexit mess against any self-interest because they've been told it'll hurt foreign/non-white/different in any way kind of people, and that's worth any damage to themselves. You have to throw out any expectations tied to enlightened self-interest.

Plus there's also the deeply entrenched class system; being competent at all means you are a servant, and thus to be loathed. Legitimate people don't know how anything happens, but they're the ones who make it happen by shouting and insulting the garbage people who do the work.

(I'm joking, but this is also often the literal truth, and it's really frustrating.)
